Pasadena High School has announced that the first year of the school year will end on July 30, 2018.
The school announced the move during a special school board meeting Thursday night.
The announcement came on the heels of a massive, high school basketball game between Calabasong High School and Cathedral High School that drew a crowd of 1,000 fans.
The school has been in the process of redesigning its gym, which was designed by the Pasadena Architectural Heritage Trust, for the new season.
During the unveiling of the new school, a video showed an artist rendering of the gym, complete with the original wooden flooring, ceiling, and beams.
The plan is to replace the wooden floor with a plastic floor and install metal brackets to hold the floor in place.
As part of the renovations, the gym will feature a new, more open space where the gym is not limited to the gymnasium.
Pasadena High School officials also announced that in 2018, the school will open a new science center to accommodate students in the area.
