(AP) The state’s two most popular high schools are facing major challenges in their enrollment.
Both have been struggling with enrollment increases.HARTFOLD ISLAND, Ind.
(WIFR) The high school where John Ritchie was born and raised is closing.
It will be closed in 2019.
The Huntington Island School Board has received $20,000 from the state to help replace the old building and replace it with a new building, but the school board hasn’t heard from the school to date.
“They are working hard on the site of the new building,” Superintendent Dan Ziegler said.
The board plans to close in 2019, which would make the Huntington Island high school the only one of the two in the state that is closed, which is one of more than 40,000 schools that are closed due to budget cuts.
The new Huntington Island High School is expected to be open for the first time in 2019-2020.
The new building will include more than 20,000 students and about 2,000 faculty members.
The school board also received a $10,000 grant from the Connecticut Department of Education to replace the older building, which was damaged in a fire in December.
The funding will allow the board to replace its building and make improvements to the campus, Zieglers said.HARDY ISLAND ISLANDST.

(KTHV) The State Department of Natural Resources and Parks has given a $6,000 loan to a private company to replace two high school buildings at Hardy Island and Fort Mason in the Arkansas Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADNR).
The ADNR says the $6.5 million project is a major undertaking.
The work will take at least a year to complete and it will create about 4,400 construction jobs.
ADNR is asking the private company, The Hardy Construction Company, to make significant improvements to two existing high school structures in Hardy Island.
The two buildings were built in 1957 and 1962 and were used for the primary high school and secondary schools.
The school was closed in the early 2000s.
The state agency says the project includes replacing the two buildings with a total of two structures.
The Hardy Construction company is a partnership of the state and private companies.
AD NR says the company has been in contact with Hardy Island residents to get information about possible improvements.
It says they will make plans to provide a detailed plan to residents in the future.
